It doesn't matter if you're just starting your career or whether you are looking to retire within the next 10 years, having enough money in our old age should be important to us all. At a time in which the national retirement age seems to only be going up and national pension sizes are stagnating, it's entirely rational to consider what one can do to retire when one wants to, rather than when they have to.
So, how can we make sure that we have enough money for our retirement?
Save As Much As You Can
The first thing you need to consider is how much you can afford to save each month towards your pension funds. Whether you can save £100, £250 or £1000 a month, saving throughout your career is vitally important over time. According to research carried out by Aegon in 2015, the average person has £50,000 in savings by the time that they hit retirement age. £50,000 equates to approximately £100 saved each month throughout a 40 year career.
